The project to revive the DeLorean sports car was first announced six years agowhen the US government introduced incentives for manufacturers of small-scale cars. Then it was supposed to make an upgraded version of the original DeLorean DMC-12 coupe with a modern engine, but this idea was never realized. But in January 2021 teaser appeared a brand new DeLorean. And this project, it seems, will still be brought to an end: the second picture-announcement has been published.

The original John DeLorean company, of course, has nothing to do with it: it stopped working back in 1982, and DeLorean himself died in 2005. But back in 1995, entrepreneur Stephen Wynn opened a new company in Texas, the DeLorean Motor Company, which bought the rights to the trademark and at first was engaged only in the restoration and resale of original DeLorean cars. But all these years, Wynn hatched plans for a full-fledged revival of the brand and the release of a new model.

The Italdesign Giugiaro studio, owned by the Volkswagen concern, will once more take part in the creation of the car. After all, it was Giorgetto Giugiaro who was the author of the design of the original DMC-12 model. Moreover, this time the Italian company will also take over the engineering work. It is clear that the gullwing doors will remain, however, judging by the new teaser, the stylistic similarity of the new car with the classic coupe should not be expected. The internal combustion engine will also disappear: the developers call the future sports car a “reimagined electric car”. Moreover, under this project, Stephen Wynn even created a subsidiary under the new name DeLorean Motors Reimagined LLC.

There are no other details yet. The debut of the first revived DeLorean model should take place in August this year at the Pebble Beach Elegance Contest.
