Dor more than thirty years, the magazine Health & Work has established itself as a benchmark for actors in the prevention of occupational risks – professionals or staff representatives of the former CHSCTs (health, safety and working conditions committees) or CSEs (social and economic committees) now -, but also with trade unionists, elected politicians, academics, students, or even journalists… An essential tool for all those who work daily to improve working conditions, Health & Work occupies a unique place in France.
Its historical publisher, the Mutualité française, associated with several major mutuals, has made an unprecedented effort by creating this information medium and distributing it, often free of charge. But today, the Mutuality is going through economic difficulties which compromise the future of the magazine or could, at the very least, affect its content as well as the fundamentals which have presided over its notoriety.
This is why we are launching a support committee in order to mobilize all those who rely on this magazine in their professional or militant activity. And thus preserve the identity of Health & Work.
Editorial independence
Health & Work is above all an information, monitoring and analysis body that sheds light on the social debate on labor issues, as demonstrated again by the current debate on pension reform. Hardship, intensification of work, professional wear and tear that compromises job retention, psychological suffering, exposure to cocktails of carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic (CMR) products… The challenges to overcome for better prevention are immense, in the private sector. as in the civil service. Especially since France is not up to the task of dealing with these issues, as a recent report by the Court of Auditors and a European survey by the Dublin Foundation have just shown.
Now is not the time to deprive yourself of a journal whose editorial independence, freedom of tone and scientific rigor have ensured its reputation. Health & Work has an organization that has proven its worth, with professional journalists who are experts in these subjects and an editorial board made up of recognized specialists in the various disciplines involved in prevention, as well as a network of scientists always up to date with the latest national and international studies.
