Fascist party leader Benito Mussolini was elected as the youngest Prime Minister in the history of Italy in 1922. When exactly a century has passed, the so-called Brothers of Italy party leader, Giorgia Meloni, is going to be appointed as the Prime Minister of the European country. It is almost certain that the far-right front led by Meloni will win 40-45 percent of the votes, while the current ruling front may not even get half of that. Although the outgoing government is the same as that of the right-wing parties, Meloni’s front is more extreme than that. In the event that Meloni, who campaigned for election by proclaiming that all religious, ethnic, sexual and immigrant minorities are the enemies of the people, came to power, the new incarnation of fascism has no capacity to push humanity into a third world war, but it is not unreasonable to worry that new headaches will be created in the name of racism and nationalism in the already turbulent world. In Italy, where eighty percent are Christians, nineteen percent are non-religious, and less than one percent are Muslims, there is no situation to face any kind of threat from the last mentioned group. Yet when it comes to the fact that the main campaign of the Meloni Front was centered on Islamophobia, it must be said that it is the result of existing racism. Georgia Melanie had to say that she, as a Christian, will stand for nationalism, motherhood and family values when the phenomenon that the people’s response and interest towards Christianity is decreasing in Europe, and churches are widely becoming empty of worship and many are being sold is making the Catholic churches and clergy leaders uncomfortable. It is on this basis that it has been possible to bring together a large group of consenters. Italy’s real problems are rising prices, the energy crisis and already existing economic problems caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but Meloni highlighted refugees and early migrants from the Middle East as the main threat rather than solutions. It has been recognized that national and ethnic hatred and hatred, which has intensified in recent times, is the most effective and efficient way to mobilize people emotionally. Meloni, who praised Mussolini as a good politician in his youth, later changed all that, but what is happening now is that the fascist hidden in their minds is coming out.
This is not just the case in Italy, it is racism and Islamophobia that brought Donald Trump to the presidency of the US more than anything else. Again, there are signs of a return to racism in America. Far-right leader Marine Laven shocked everyone by winning the highest vote share of the post-war era – 41.5 percent – in the French presidential election. Sweden’s election also saw the government of Social Democrat Magdalena Andersen fall; And the far right won. In our country too, the current extremist Hindu forces are optimistic of a third term in power in the 2024 elections. With the opposition becoming fragmented and weaker by the day, any hope for the opposite is seriously fading. There are several fundamental reasons for this phenomenon. But what is most evident is the discovery by dark forces that it is easy to prey on the helpless people under the guise of racism and extremism in an economic sphere that has been monopolized by policies of globalization and liberalization. While the rule of law and the justice system are at an end, large masses of people can be held captive by temptations and provocations. The forces of darkness can also silence those who preach wisdom and righteousness. But the lesson of history is that fascism is not the ultimate victor.
