The return of Cristina Kirchner to the Senate compound and a handkerchief that sparked an unexpected cross

Cristina Kirchner He returned to preside over a session of the Senate for the first time since the attempt on his life in September of last year. And his return was not only news from a political point of view, but he also left some exchanges with opposition senators.

One of the awkward moments occurred moments before the law that recognizes the Argentine Sign Language (LSA) was voted on. The project, which had been approved by the Chamber of Deputies, was unanimously approved, with 63 votes in favor, before militants who celebrated from the boxes with T-shirts and allusive flags.

It happened that the camporista from Tierra del Fuego, Eugenia Duré, who was in charge of closing that debate, took a blue handkerchief with which the claim is identified and brought it, through tears, to the presidential podium to hand it over to Cristinaat the end of his speech.

Immediately, the head of the radical block, Luis Naidenoff, asked for the floor. “Obviously, the law that we are regarding to vote on is important, but I do not want to miss a fact that, from a political point of view, does not correspond. What corresponds is that when the closures end, the vote should proceed, ”he warned.

As the Vice President watched, Naidenoff added regarding the delivery of the handkerchief: “Regardless of how emblematic it may be, it should have been done before the vote.” “I never saw this and it is a fact that can distort the importance of the law.”

“Do you know what I propose? -replied the vice-president-, if it has bothered you so much, I’ll return it and we’ll go to the vote…”. And then she finished: “Let’s not ruin a beautiful day.”

Once the law was approved, Cristina commented: “I want to apologize to the senators because I did not ask those who are there for silence, because they have already had a life of silence, that’s why I allowed them to express themselves here.” And she spoke directly to Naidenoff: “I know it bothers you, Senator, but they’ve had a lifetime of silence. Let’s let him scream a little on a day like today.”

Moments before, Cristina was annoyed by some senators who called her “president”. One of those who did so was Mercedes Valenzuela, from the UCR for Corrientes. Cristina gave her the floor and, upon hearing how she called her, she did not realize that she was with the open microphone and let out “another… God help me”.

When Valenzuela finished her speech, Cristina did not miss the opportunity and replied: “Thank you, Senator.”

The vice president opened the session this Thursday and then withdrew from the premises, but returned to be present at the vote on the Sign Language law and also on the so-called “Lucio law”, which bears his name in honor of Lucio Dupuy, the minor murdered in La Pampa at the hands of his mother and her partner.
