The return of augmented reality

Published on :

Considered for a time too intrusive, imprecise or even uncomfortable, augmented reality, this technology which makes it possible to add images, sounds or even geolocation data to our perception of everyday life, can simplify our lives. Provided, however, that you take a few precious precautions.

Yes, it is possible to stay true to your cell phone while taking 8,000 steps a day. It is in any case the creed of John Hanke, the creator of Niantic, at the origin in 2014 of Pokemon Go. His new game wants to slip us into the shoes of a basketball fan just like… a connoisseur of our own neighborhood. Here is one of the applications of augmented reality, the concept of which was imagined in 1901 by Lyman Frank Baum, author also of the Wizard of Oz.

Result: big names in technology, from Snap to TCL, via Microsoft, Epson and Apple, are exploring this new path. Especially since, for John Hanke, this technology, which allows “real” interaction with other human beings, can even create an immersive world more interesting than most of the metaverses presented so far. Next step ? Augmented reality lenses. But for that, it will be necessary to solve some miniaturization obstacles as well as to counter any attempt at manipulation.
