The qualified for the 8th finals
The qualified teams are not yet known.
The format of the competition
The format of the Women’s World Cup is undergoing a major change for this edition, going from 24 to 32 participating teams. This leads to a modification of the qualification rules for the round of 16. In previous editions, the best third in each group might advance to the knockout phase. Teams will now have to qualify only by finishing in the top two places in their group.
In the event of a tie between two or more teams at the end of the group stage, several criteria will be used to decide between them. Here are which ones:
Points obtained in all group matches (three points for a win, one point for a draw, no points for a loss). Goal difference in all group matches. Number of goals scored in all group matches. Points obtained during direct confrontations between the teams concerned.
African performances at the Women’s World Cup
Here is the list of African countries that have already participated as well as their best performance:
Nigeria : 9 participations (Quarter-finals in 1999)
Cameroon: 2 appearances (Right of 16 in 2015 and 2019)
Ghana : 3 appearances (Group Stage in 1999, 2003, and 2007)
Equatorial Guinea : 1 appearance (Group Stage in 2011)
South Africa : 2 participations (Group Stage in 2019)
Ivory Coast : 1 appearance (Group Stage in 2015)
Morocco : 1 entry (coming soon)
Zambia: 1 entry (coming soon)
Nigeria’s historic journey in 1999
In 1999, the Nigeria, then placed in Group A, had won two of their three group matches (1-2 once morest North Korea then 2-0 ahead of Denmark). During the second day once morest the United States, the Super Falcons had nevertheless suffered a real beating (7-1). But as second in their group, they were able to play in the quarter-finals, unfortunately narrowly lost to Brazil (4-3 ap). Having reached this stage of the competition, they became the first African nation to qualify for the quarter-finals of a Women’s World Cup. Even if they participated in all the following editions (5 in total), they never managed to repeat such a performance.
In 1999 I saw the Nigeria Brazil women’s match in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, it made them miserable, unfortunately they lost 4-3 once morest Brazil. If anyone has the stats of African teams in WC it would be interesting

African performances at the 2019 World Cup
Twenty years following their fine run at the 1999 World Cup, the Super Falcons achieved a notable performance at the 2019 World Cup, which took place in France. Despite the jagged group stages (success once morest South Korea then two losses once morest Norway and Les Bleues), the Nigeriens still managed to reach the stage of the round of 16. Swept away by the Germans (3-0), they can be proud of the course despite an ultimately lackluster record (3 losses, 1 victory).
THE Indomitable Lionesses, they also felled in the eighth by the English (3-0), had also gleaned 3 points in pool (victory once morest New Zealand and two defeats once morest Canada and the Netherlands). A journey ultimately relatively similar to the Nigerian players. If the latter will try to do at least as well during this new 2023 edition, Cameroonians will have to wait during a next edition since they are not on the trip to Oceania. Blame it on a failed CAN 2022.
