With full conviction, the intention to continue lowering his marks and the hope of representing Chile at the international level, the athlete from Yungay, Juan Manuel Quijada, finished his participation in the recent 2004 National Adult Athletics Championship, who touched the podium. following reaching fourth place in the demanding 5,000 meter test, held on the athletic track of the Mario Recordón Stadium.

“That’s how it is. On Sunday I participated in the Adult National Championship, the most important event of the year for the category, since it provides valuable points for this year’s international events, which are the Ibero-American, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. I participated in the 5,000 meters, test that had the best of Chile, occupying fourth place among 21 competitors. The result leaves me happy, since I am returning with everything to the slopes following two years finishing my university career, training with ups and downs,” says the tireless Ñublensino athlete from Los Angeles.

“Now with more time and rest, all the efforts are reflected. I am grateful for my family, my coach Raúl Guarda from Los Angeles and all the people of Yungay who encourage me when I train sometimes on the streets and also contributed with the completed equipment for this trip and in some other way,” details the long-distance runner from Yungay, who following finishing his physical education degree, has more space to develop his training patterns in Los Angeles, where he is trained by the experienced athletics technical director, Raúl Guarda.

Juan Manuel Quijada achieved a time of 14:30’22, behind the champion Ignacio Velásquez with a time of 14:23’54, Leslie Encina 14:25’94 and his teammate in Los Angeles, the copycat. Ignacio Carrizo, who clocked 14:27’57.

The Yungay athlete started running seven years ago, running in the streets, because in his homeland he did not have many opportunities to develop his passion “because this sport is not known, there are no competitions or events to compete in.”

“My goal is to continue lowering the marks, but there are missing events in Chile, perhaps in Argentina we can look for some. I want to get closer to 14 minutes in the 5 thousand meters to be able to look for a place in the Chilean National Team,” says Juan Manuel Quijada.
