In Froidchapelle, firefighters spent the night battling the flames. The incident occurred in the village of Boussu-lez-Walcourt, a stone’s throw from the Eau d’Heure lakes. A restaurant, ‘La Ruchette’, burned down completely. Three people were inside the building at the time of the fire. They had already left when the firefighters arrived. All three are doing well physically.
When firefighters arrived, the building was completely ablaze. The Philippeville firefighters asked for reinforcements, particularly in water because there was little access to water on site. The fire was brought under control just before 4 a.m.
40 years of work, 40 years of memories gone up in smoke. What little remains of the building threatens to collapse. Stéphanie is the restaurant owner’s granddaughter. She is devastated: “We already have people from the village who came last night to help us. There is already a solidarity that wanted to be put in place. We were in such a state of shock that we left it for this morning. This morning, We have already had quite a bit of solidarity and courage sent to us. I am still in shock. I saw the fire at 2 a.m. I am outraged.”
