The resignation of Conner Rousseau reshuffles the cards of Flemish… and federal politics
Many political figures reacted in the wake of his announcement.
Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) declared: “The words he said were very hard to hear. Did he make the right decision? It is difficult for me to comment on this subject. He took it himself and he will have done it in all conscience.”
Within the Vooruit party itself, reactions were very numerous. Thus, Jinnih Beels declared that, according to her, Conner Rousseau “might stay” because “everyone has the right to a second chance”.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Freya Van den Bossche hailed it as a “good decision”. “It’s brave. But I hope, as do many people, also outside the party office, that it will be possible for Conner to play a major role permanently. We will give him a few weeks. But I have the feeling that many people within the party hope that he will still play this important role,” she continued.

Minister of Development Cooperation and Large Cities Policy Caroline Gennez said that Conner Rousseau was going to need a little time but that she too hoped that he would continue to play a role. “The party office has incredible respect for what Conner has done. But at some point, you have to make the decision to put the community first,” she admitted, however.
