On Friday, March 8, the retired Army general Jorge Yánac Chávez He was arrested at his residence in Santiago de Surco, as the alleged perpetrator of the theft of 6 thousand gallons of oil in 2017, when he served as head of the Army Quartermaster Service (DINTE). What was unknown until now is that Yánac is a supplier to the State and that his own military institution is among his clients.

According to the official portal of State suppliers, between 2012 and 2023, General Jorge Yánac’s company, JPY Sports SRL, signed 115 contracts with twenty public institutions, including the Armyin the period in which it was active.

For reasons of staff renewal, Yánac retired in 2017, which did not prevent him from continuing to contract with the state.

Yánac and members of his family founded the company JPY Sports SRL on January 6, 2003 with a capital of S/84 thousand. The general appears as the majority shareholder. According to experts in contracting with the State, Jorge Yánac should not have been a supplier to public entities while he was in office as army’s officermuch less with the military entity.

Yánac’s lawyer, Jaime Robles Torres, told The Republic that I would not comment.

According to the State Suppliers portal, the firm JPY Sports SRL invoiced public entities more than S/26.3 million, between 2012 and 2023, in consortium with other companies or individually.

Originally, according to Public Records, JPY Sports SRL would be dedicated to teaching tennis and organizing sporting events, but it became a supplier of sports equipment and clothing, institutional uniforms, stationery and other products for the Air Force, The Navyministries such as Economy, Energy and Mines, Education, Labor, and dozens of public entities.

The Republic obtained copies of almost all contracts. They all bear the signature of General Jorge Yánac Chávez.

The first of these, dated November 30, 2012, is for the sale of gym equipment for the military institution. The purchase was made by the head of the Administration Office of the General Command of the Army, Colonel EP Jorge Benites Herrera. At that time Yánac worked in the Army’s Directorate of Economy. It was a contract between co-workers. And he wasn’t the only one.

At that time, Jorge Yánac was a colonel of the Quartermaster. But as of January 2016 he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. However, it did not last long. In October 2017 he was informed that he would retire at the end of that year. That is, between 2012 and 2017, when he was an active Army officer, he invoiced the State around S / 5.3 million.

The serious thing is that in the period he contracted with the State, Yánac held key positions in the Army.

In 2014 he was deputy director of Planning, Public Investment and Budget of the Army. Between 2015 and 2016, he held the position of Director of Economy of the Army, and in 2017 he assumed leadership of the Army Quartermaster Service (SIE), which, coincidentally, is dedicated to the contracting of goods and services, among the suppliers is his company JPY Sports SRL.
