The guests of the port will also get more amenities – renovated roads and footpaths, a water filling station that meets all safety requirements will start operating this spring.

A modern port is being built

“Kaunas is called the city of rivers for a reason. This is proven by more and more real works. In the next few years, three new bridges will connect the banks of Neris and Nemunas. The Nemunas channel is ready for passenger and cargo shipping. There is no shortage of action further up, on the other side of the hydroelectric power plant: for the time being, the Kaunas lagoon is dominated by recreational boating, but even here, with the arrival of the warm season, changes can be seen from afar,” says Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis.

A modern, modern port is being built in the picturesque Neptune Bay. Its occupancy was almost 100% last year, and this year there is not a single vacancy left.

As early as this spring, a convenient gas station on the water will be operational so that owners of motorboats can fill up their fuel tanks in an orderly manner. Around the port, the city is setting up a green and cozy leisure space for Kaunas residents with roads and footpaths.

New sailing sports base

In order to provide suitable conditions for young water sports enthusiasts and professionals, the base of the “Bangpūtis” sailing school is rising on the coast of Neptune Bay.

The builders finish installing the structures, the contours of the buildings become clearer. The next stage is facade finishing works, installation of internal engineering systems.

Over the past few years, a slip has been provided in Neptune Bay for convenient launching and lifting of boats and jet skis. Quays have been formed for sailing ships, and a pier has been arranged for children’s sports boats.

Will serve ambitious projects

Changes in Neptune Bay will also serve an ambitious future project – the installation of a lock at the Kaunas hydroelectric power plant. The aim is to make the Nemunas, known as the father of rivers, a continuous waterway that would allow uninterrupted navigation on the country’s largest river.

The Directorate of Inland Waterways has completed a three-year project – the 200 km long Nemunas riverbed is already ready for passenger and cargo shipping. The crane operating in the port of Marvele has more and more work to do.

Last year, a contract was concluded for environmental impact assessment and preparation of project proposal. All this will show the possible price of the object and more specific construction terms.
