A patient died Tuesday, October 3 in suspicious conditions at the Remiremont hospital (Vosges), while the establishment has been the target of several complaints from patients’ families since 2022, and the scheduled surgery activity has been suspended, announced Thursday, October 5, the regional health agency (ARS), jointly with and the establishment.
“Following the unexpected death of a patient at the Remiremont hospital center in surgery, and due to the general context in particular regarding complaints, it was decided, as a precautionary measure, to suspend all scheduled surgical activity”announced the establishment in a press release, confirming information from the Point. The agency adds that “the elements of the medical file [de la patiente concernée] are currently being analyzed by [ses] medical inspectors ».
Only surgical emergencies will be insured; “the decision to resume activity” will not be taken until October 11, specifies the establishment. An investigation is being carried out to “analyze the situation and verify that all medical and surgical organizations are fully compliant with the rules of the establishment” to guarantee the safety of care, the establishment further specifies.
Medical-administrative inspection
In January, seven complaints were filed. “I opened four judicial investigations once morest X for involuntary homicide”had announced the public prosecutor of Epinal, Frédéric Nahon, plus another for “unintentional injuries”.
In total, the hospital has been the subject of twelve complaints filed by families of patients since 2022. At least seven of them were filed by families and concern deaths of patients deemed suspicious by their loved ones. France Bleu had recently reported the case of another 82-year-old patient, admitted in June 2023 for two broken ribs, and died a few days later of a ” septic shock “.
Following these various complaints, “the ARS had already initiated, from January 2, 2023, a medical-administrative inspection responsible in particular for examining each identified case”.
The agency explains that “provisional observations of ARS inspectors were shared at the establishment in September”. The hospital now has” a delay “ pour “formulate your response to the inspectors’ observations and provide any useful clarification”.
The AJC association for them, which wants to help and “bring families together” of patients who died at Remiremont hospital, will hold a press conference on Monday, to “communicate regarding the slowness of justice” following these complaints were filed and “to question” the ministers of health and justice “on the seriousness of such dysfunctions within the public hospital”.
