The office of the deputy announced the release of regarding 1,750 prisoners; In implementation of the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council to exempt them from executing the rest of their sentences.

The office stated in a statement that the release came following studying the judicial files of the convicts from the correctional and rehabilitation institutions, with the aim of appointing those to whom the controls established in the governing rules apply.

Subsequently, the Public Prosecution Office directed the implementation of the procedure for the release of the selected inmates, according to the office.

On March 27, the Supreme Judicial Council announced its intention to issue a decision pardoning the rest of the sentence for those sentenced in accordance with the controls and conditions established on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.

The decision of the Judicial Council stipulates that the convict must serve at least half of the sentence, and that one-third of the term is sufficient for convicts who suffer from chronic diseases, need special medical care, or who are over sixty years old.

The general amnesty decision excluded those convicted in cases related to terrorism, harming state security, retribution and borders, as well as premeditated murder and kidnapping, as well as forced theft, unless the victim is reconciled.

The decision also excluded those convicted of drug offenses whose sentences exceed 5 years, according to the decision.
