The relaxed Dane swims in the Olympic final in record time

The 24-year-old swimmer from Holstebro came fourth in her semi-final heat on Wednesday evening, and across the two semi-finals she set the sixth best time.

It took the Dane 2 minutes and 6.65 seconds to cover the distance, which is a Danish and Nordic record.

– I am relieved that I made it to the final. I had dreamed about that and been nervous about it for the last while. I am insanely happy right now, she says.

After the first 50 metres, the Dane returned as number three in her semi-final, and halfway through the race she took the same position. She then dropped to fourth place and for a period was in danger of finishing fifth, before her long, cool swim put her back on course for the finals.

She knew very well that it would generally be a fast heat.

– I was perhaps a little fresh in the first 100 metres. So there might be some things to redo and work on for tomorrow, but overall I’m quite satisfied. I delivered my best race.

– It was insanely great to be allowed to swim against such talented women and now be allowed to be in an Olympic final and see if we can move 200 flights, she states.

The atmosphere in Paris La Défense Arena was electric. Not least because home track hero Léon Marchand had just won gold at the same distance for the men.

And the sound level hadn’t subsided when the Dane jumped into the pool immediately afterwards.

– It was wild and fun. I really tried to enjoy the atmosphere because it was a crazy atmosphere.

The eight finalists will be in the pool on Thursday evening at 8.30pm. With the final place, she has already achieved her big goal, but she strives for more.

– It’s just going to be big. I look forward to. The next day will be wild, predicts the Danish finalist.
