Mental health is a state of well-being that allows people to cope with stressful moments in life, develop all their skills, and be able to learn and work properly. It is a fundamental part of health and well-being that supports our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, establish relationships and shape the world in which we live. Therefore, it is necessary that we do some physical activity that is responsible for stimulating the release of different hormones that help our mind to heal.
For its part, regular and adequate physical activity, including any body movement that requires energy, can reduce the risk of many non-communicable diseases and disorders, such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, breast cancer and colon, as well as depression.
1. There is a relationship between physical activity and mental health
By exercising we stimulate the release of endorphins in our brain, which are secreted during and following physical exercise and induce a greater state of happiness and emotional well-being.
2. How much exercise should we do to give our mental health a boost?
The answer will certainly depend on age, although in reality, it is not as much as one might think. It is not necessary to lock yourself up in a gym for hours or spend the entire followingnoon on a treadmill. All the benefits for physical and mental health can be achieved with 30 minutes of moderate exercise, five times a week.
Additionally, this can be spread over two 15-minute or three 10-minute exercise sessions. Even a few minutes of physical activity is better than nothing. You can start with sessions of five to 10 minutes and gradually increase. The more exercise you do, the more energy you will have, so eventually you will feel ready for some more. The key is to commit to doing some physical activity most days.
3. Walk
To do this exercise you only need a good pair of tennis shoes and excellent company. You can do it with a friend or family member and it is ideal for socializing while activating your body.
4. Nadar
An ideal exercise for those who like water. This is one of the most complete physical activities. It can be combined with other exercises, such as aerobics in the same pool, which will help strengthen muscles.
5. Bicycle
It can be done on a preferred route and with a group of people, to stay motivated. If that is not possible, a stationary bike will be the best option to move your body without leaving home.
6. Yoga
The best thing regarding this practice is that you do not have to be an expert to practice it, since it has several levels of difficulty. You can start from the basics, simple but very complete stretches and movements, which are ideal for strengthening muscles and clearing your mind.
7. Baile
Dancing is a very complete activity. It can be done to the rhythm of music and with a good group of friends, and that will be enough to stay in shape. In addition, it is ideal to do it as a couple, there you are fulfilling the double task: doing exercises to maintain good mental and physical health, and at the same time, spending quality time with your partner.
