Two men who participated in riots outside the Diocesan Girls’ School in Jordan during PolyU’s “Siege of Wei and Rescue of Zhao” on November 18, 2019, have had their appeal rejected by the Court of Appeal. Chen Ziqian and Huang Shizhe were among nine individuals who were charged with taking part in the riot. Two men were previously sentenced to 38 months in prison following being convicted of rioting. Despite refusing to accept their conviction and file an application for leave to appeal, the Court of Appeal has stated that the two men must appear in court to defend themselves and accept cross-examination by the prosecution if they have “clean reasons” to explain why they were fully equipped at the scene. The original judgment has been upheld.
