The Regional Tourism Council (CRT) has released indicators of the demand for the Agadir destination during the summer, in its latest monthly memorandum on the tourism situation for the month of June 2024.

At the level of the Agadir-Taghazout-Imi Ouaddar axis, which is considered the Kingdom’s first coastal resort, the Council expected a large tourist influx, as the total arrivals to classified tourist accommodation facilities for the month of June 2024 recorded an increase of 9.13% compared to June 2023 and a double increase of 13.10% compared to June 2019.

According to CRT figures, the facilities located on the aforementioned axis received 110,590 tourists in June 2024, compared to 101,335 during the same period in 2023 and 97,784 in 2019.

According to the same statistics, indicators showed that overnight stays increased by 19.22% compared to June 2023 and by 10.01% compared to June 2019.

Regarding tourism indicators in the first quarter of 2024 and during the first half of 2024, the total number of arrivals to classified tourist accommodation establishments recorded an increase of 15.34% compared to 2023, compared to 20.43% in 2019.

According to the region’s tourism board, tourists who stayed in Agadir represent 630,660 citizens during the current half-year compared to 546,774 and 523,686 during the same two periods in 2023 and 2019, which indicates that the destination could indeed exceed the 2023 performance, as Agadir exceeded the figure of 1.2 million tourists during the 2023 tourist season compared to 2019.

The same source confirmed that tourist overnight stays are heading towards achieving positive performance, as they reached 2.644 million nights spent in classified tourist accommodation establishments in the first half of 2024, compared to 2.211 and 2.364 million nights, respectively, in 2023 and 2019, an increase of 19.59% compared to 2023, and an increase of 11.87% compared to 2019.

Regarding the nationality of visitors to Agadir in the first half of 2024, it is clear that Moroccan visitors are at the forefront of visitors despite the downward trend compared to 2023, as 184,472 local tourists were received in the first half of 2024 compared to 191,830 during the same period in 2023.

French visitors rank second after Moroccans in terms of arrivals to Agadir, with 125,433 citizens, while English arrivals reached 121,731 tourists in the first half, which may exceed the French market in the coming months.

As for the average occupancy rate in classified hotels in the city of Agadir during the first half of 2024, it also witnessed, like the rest of the indicators, an increase of 12.90%, i.e. an occupancy rate of 58.29% compared to 2023, when this indicator reached 51.63% and an increase of 14.02% compared to 2023.

It is worth noting that the tourist destination of Agadir usually attracts Moroccan and foreign citizens during holiday periods, as well as festivals and occasions, which encourages the creation of a significant tourist boom in the capital of Souss-Massa.

A number of tourism experts expect that the summer of 2024 will exceed the numbers achieved in 2023 in terms of tourism to this destination, as tourist accommodation and residence establishments are betting on the influx of citizens and Moroccans residing abroad.
