the Regional Health Agency wants to recall the importance of barrier gestures

Covid-19 contaminations are on the rise in our department. The incidence rate, the number of positive cases per 100,000 population, nearly doubled in two weeks. According to the latest figures from the Regional Health Agency, the incidence rate fell from 600 positive cases on Tuesday March 8 to 1,284 on Friday March 25.

Valérie Juillet, director of the territorial delegation of the ARS for Mayenne, explains that the contaminations affect the whole population. “The virus is circulating everywhere. Following the last school holidays, we have nevertheless identified a young age group affected by contamination“The progression of the virus is of course caused by the multiplication of gatherings, with family or friends, she explains. “It also affects populations that until then were less affected, because covered by vaccination, that is to say the over 65s.“The director of the territorial delegation of the ARS for Mayenne wishes to recall the interest of the booster vaccination for the most vulnerable peopleto be protected once more, especially to avoid serious forms“.

Do not lose the distancing reflexes

According to the representative of the ARS, the increase in contamination is also due to a relaxation of respect for barrier gestures. We can see that the tendency in the population is to think that the virus is no longer present and therefore to pay less attention.” On the contrary, Valérietoy wants to recall the importance of preserving all distancing measures, “like putting on a mask in an enclosed place where distancing is not always possible. I think that we must not lose these reflexes, as long as the virus circulates in the department.“You also have to keep getting tested.”We can only recommend to the Mayenne population to be cautious in terms of symptoms: they must be tested and then isolate themselves to break any chains of contamination.

For the moment, the situation in Mayenne hospitals with regard to hospitalizations for Covid-19 is stable, recognizes Valérietoy. “There has been a drop in the number of hospitalizations since the end of February. This is a good thing. On the other hand, and this is the alert point, we know that hospital admissions are counted with a lag in relation to the incidence rate. We can therefore wonder in the days or weeks to come if the incidence rate continues to increase.“The ARS therefore wants to be extremely vigilant regarding the evolution of the health situation,”in order to alert and intervene quickly to avoid a resumption of hospital admissions and in particular in critical care“.
