The regional government: We reached preliminary understandings to solve the problems with Baghdad

Baghdad / Obelisk: The Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed, on Sunday 15/01/2023, that it had reached preliminary agreements to solve problems with Baghdad, following the recent visit to the Iraqi capital headed by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani.

This came during the meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Council of Ministers, where the meeting discussed the results of the recent visit by the high-ranking delegation of the Kurdistan Regional Government headed by the Prime Minister, on January 11, 2023, to Baghdad and the meeting with the Federal Prime Minister and the negotiating delegation of the federal government.

Masrour Barzani indicated that they felt, during the meeting, that there was a positive atmosphere and a good opportunity to solve problems with the federal government on the basis of the constitution, and within the framework of the political agreement of the forces that formed the government, and the ministerial platform that was voted on by the Iraqi parliament.

The Prime Minister of the region confirmed that initial understandings had been reached to solve the problems, following many related files were discussed, including the draft federal budget law for the year 2023, the draft federal oil and gas law, the rights of the Peshmerga and their constitutional entitlements, the implementation of constitutional Article 140, and the normalization of conditions. In the Kurdish areas outside the administration of the region, the implementation of the Sinjar agreement, and the removal of the armed forces and illegal armed forces.

The second paragraph of the meeting was devoted to presenting the report of the Ministry of Natural Resources regarding the agreement between the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Federal Ministry of Oil during the recent visit, regarding the implementation of the agreement to send white oil to the region, according to the statement.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan region announced the Iraqi government’s decision to allocate an additional 50 million liters of oil to the Kurdistan region, and to reduce the price of a liter from 750 to 500 dinars.

The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, called on the Kurdistan Parliament to expedite holding a session to activate the Independent High Commission for Elections and Referendum in the Kurdistan Region, indicating that the Kurdistan Regional Government is ready to secure everything necessary to hold the elections, stressing the need to hold them during the current year.

In January 2023, a delegation from the Kurdistan Region headed by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, went to Baghdad.

The first stop of Masrour Barzani’s visit was his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, followed by a meeting of the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government with the Supreme Judicial Council, the Parliament and the Presidency of the Republic.
