The Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Francesco La Camera, said that hydrogen will have an important role, and the UAE presented in COP26 the roadmap for hydrogen 2050, because hydrogen is very important to complement renewable energy sources that will be the basis of the new energy system, due to its distinguished being Clean fuel and storage capacity.
Francesco La Camera added, in an interview with Al Arabiya, that hydrogen can be the long-term economy fuel in transportation and heavy industries that are difficult to electrify, and it can also have a role in stabilizing the electrical network through storage, and therefore has an important role.
He explained that the Middle East region will be a pioneer in hydrogen production Because of the low cost of renewable energies and also they can benefit from blue hydrogen in gas-exporting countries.
The Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), said that the impact of hydrogen in the energy sector will be faster than expected, but the most important thing here is the presence of demand, not competition and supplies, so we must be able to find demand in addition to setting standards that make trade in it more transparent. and efficient.
He explained that the question is not to separate the current energy system, but rather to move with the IPCC, as gas will have an important role in 2050, but in total the standards will differ between gas, fossil fuels and renewable energies, and they will be the opposite of what they are today, which is 30% To 70% it will be the opposite in the coming years.
