**Interview with Lilan Bowden: Reflecting on Representation in “Andi Mack”**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Lilan! Your role in *Andi Mack* has been pivotal for many viewers, especially those who identify with a mixed-race background. Can you share what it meant for you personally to be part of such a groundbreaking show?
**Lilan Bowden:** Thank you for having me! It was truly an incredible experience. For the first time in my career, I felt like I was accurately representing my own mixed-race identity. Growing up, I didn’t often see characters on TV who looked like me or shared similar backgrounds. *Andi Mack* really opened the door for that kind of representation.
**Editor:** It’s inspiring to hear how meaningful this role has been for you. How do you think the portrayal of mixed-race characters has evolved in recent television compared to when you were growing up?
**Lilan Bowden:** There’s definitely a shift happening. When I was younger, diversity in media was often just tokenism. Now, shows like *Andi Mack* are not only depicting mixed-race characters but also exploring their complexities and stories in a genuine way. It’s exciting to be part of this change and to see more authentic narratives emerging.
**Editor:** Speaking of narratives, what message do you hope young viewers take away from your character and the show as a whole?
**Lilan Bowden:** I hope they feel seen and validated. It’s important for mixed-race kids, or any kids who feel different, to know that they belong. The show emphasizes friendship, family, and acceptance, teaching that it’s okay to embrace every aspect of who you are.
**Editor:** Absolutely! Your work has certainly paved the way for a more inclusive representation. What’s next for you in your career?
**Lilan Bowden:** I’m excited about some upcoming projects that are aligned with my values and focus on diversity. I’m also passionate about continuing to advocate for representation both in front of and behind the camera.
**Editor:** We look forward to seeing where your journey takes you next! Thank you so much for sharing your insights with us today.
**Lilan Bowden:** Thank you for the opportunity! It’s been a pleasure talking with you.
