János Nagy emphasized that in Hungary the state and the church operate separately, but the state cooperates with the churches for the sake of community goals. The state supports the churches, as it does in Alcsútdoboz, with HUF 153 million so that they can carry out their service, he added.
The state secretary said: “we owe it to the churches, because during the regime change the churches got back a fraction of the wealth that the communists took from them”, and church institutions, schools, charitable organizations, community centers serve entire communities.
“Churches bring faith, hope and love into people’s lives, if they fill public spaces with life, then our country will be great once more,” he said.
János Nagy pointed out that the coronavirus epidemic, the war, and inflation created a lot of uncertainty. He believes that this is when one should go back to the sources: in addition to 500 years of Protestantism and 1,000 years of statehood, “working to pray and praying to work”.
Hajdú Szabolcs Koppány, dean of the Reformed Diocese of Vértesaljai, called the complete renovation of the church and community center an event beyond himself. He said, “sooner or later, the order in the soul determines the visible, the external, and the internal order became visible in Alcsútdoboz”.
He reported that in the last six years, among the 37 churches of the diocese, there was not one where a church, a parish or a meeting house was not renovated, and new kindergartens were also built.
Caretaker János Tima announced that HUF 70 million was received from Bethlen Gábor Alapkezelő Zrt. for the exterior and interior renovation of the church. The facade plaster, rainwater drainage and ledges were renewed, clean painting was carried out and a new tower clock was installed in the tower. The church received a new organ and a new sound system from donations.
They won a grant of 82 million for the church building, the building was completely renovated inside and out while preserving its historic character.
