The Red Sox win the series against the Astros: 4-1

Rookie Ceddanne Rafaela had two doubles and two RBIs and teammate David Hamilton added a solo homer in the ninth inning to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 4-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Monday.

Rafaela’s leadoff double off Justin Verlander (3-3) gave Boston a 2-1 lead in the second inning. He drove in another run with a two-out double in the seventh.

Hamilton’s homer to right field off Seth Martinez made it 4-1 with two outs in the ninth.

The Red Sox, who swept the AL West-leading Astros at home earlier this month, won the series with a 6-5 victory Tuesday.

IN ST. LOUIS, Nolan Arenado played the hero with a grand slam in the tenth inning to help the St. Louis Cardinals come back and beat the Milwaukee Brewers 10-6.

Arenado’s sixth career grand slam gave the Cardinals just their second win in eight games and snapped the Brewers’ six-game winning streak. Arenado has hit a walk-off homer six times in his career.

DOMINICAN Elly de la Cruz hit a home run and became the first player since at least 1901 to have at least 20 homers and 60 steals in a single season, as the Cincinnati Reds overcame a six-run deficit and beat the Toronto Blue Jays 11-7.

Spencer Steer hit a two-run homer, while Dominican Noelvi Marte and Jonathan India joined the home run party for Cincinnati, which won two of the three games in the series against Toronto.

MICHAEL LORENZEN pitched seven scoreless innings, Puerto Rican MJ Meléndez hit a home run and the Kansas City Royals beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-0 for their sixth win in seven games.

The Royals spoiled the season debut of 17-year major league veteran Johnny Cueto (0-1), who helped Kansas City win the 2015 World Series.

CUBAN Lourdes Gurriel Jr. drove in four runs, including three on a go-ahead double in the seventh inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to beat the Miami Marlins 10-8.

Jake McCarthy and Geraldo Perdomo each homered for Arizona, which swept the three-game series and has the best record in the majors since July 1, 31-13.

IN ATLANTA, Brandon Marsh broke a tie with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the eighth inning and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the home team Braves 3-2.

The win extended the Phillies’ lead atop the NL East to seven games with five regular-season meetings remaining between the two teams.

A three-run homer by Matt Wallner was the centerpiece of a seven-run fourth inning in a game that the Minnesota Twins beat the San Diego Padres 11-4.
