The recovery of used gas cylinders trade in Egypt amid doubts about their recycling
The prices of new (empty) gas cylinders recorded record highs, exceeding 100 percent in a year, as their price in electrical appliances shops reached 1,200 pounds compared to 500 pounds last year, which led to an increase in the price of used ones from 350 pounds last year to 700. pounds this year.
The increase in the new gas cylinders came as a result of the increase in the prices of the main components involved in their manufacture, including iron and copper, by rates that exceeded 90 percent during the year, in addition to other operating costs.
One of the street vendors revealed that he buys the used cylinder from the locals for 700 pounds, in exchange for selling it to a merchant for 750 pounds, explaining that the merchant in turn resells it to the manufacturer to recycle it again.
An informed source in Al-Ittihad Company, one of the companies that manufactures these cylinders, denied in exclusive statements, an absolute denial, that the manufacturing companies buy the used ones, as their role ends with supplying these cylinders to the gas filling companies, stressing that if defects are noticed on the cylinder from Before the packing companies are immediately culled.
Hussein Hassan, a scrap dealer, indicated that these used cylinders are sold in areas that gas has not yet entered, as well as workshops that use gas in metal cutting operations, denying the existence of smuggling operations abroad, pointing out that the price of scrap iron has risen from 9 pounds per kilo a year.
