The operation is most far-reaching technological and commercial integration carried out to date in the Spanish financial system and it is a fundamental phase of the legal merger process of the two entities, closed almost eight months ago, since from now on they will operate as a single bank.
In a statement, CaixaBank has highlighted that the works will not affect CaixaBank customers and will have minor effects for Bankia customers, who will be able to withdraw cash from ATMs and make purchases with cards, although they will not be able to update the balances in their accounts until the integration is complete.
In addition, sending and receiving money through Bizum and immediate transfers originating from or destined for Bankia customers will also not be available until the transaction is closed.
Specifically, the work will begin at 3:00 p.m. this Friday, following the offices close to the public, and normality will not return until Monday the 15th.
These are some data on technological integration: 2,500 million digitized documents will be transmitted that would occupy more than 20,000 football fields if they were printed on paper, and the transferred information occupies 10.4 PetaBytes, which is equivalent to 45 times the storage capacity from Spotify.
When the migration phase concludes, during the night of Saturday 13the Bankia website and the mobile banking application will now be redirected to the CaixaBank website and the CaixaBankNow and Imagin applications.
On Sunday, 14, Bankia customers CaixaBank’s digital banking applications can now be downloaded and accessed using the same passwords the first time.
The new CaixaBank, the leading Spanish financial group, has a presence in some 2,200 municipalities and in 389 it is the only entity with representation.
The group chaired by José Ignacio Goirigolzarri and directed by Gonzalo Gortázar has some 21 million customers and more than 6,000 offices in Spain and Portugal.
