The Prince William and his wife, Kate Middletonhave canceled their trip to a town in Belize that was scheduled for the start of their Caribbean tour due to “sensitive issues” involving the local community, Kensington Palace announced on Saturday.
“We can confirm that due to sensitive issues involving the community at Indian Creek, the tour has been moved to a different location,” the statement read.
The couple was scheduled to visit a Durant cocoa farm on the first day of their eight-day tour.
Apparently, the problem they had had to do with the local indigenous community, which was not consulted regarding the visit. The Q’eqchi Mayans have been fighting for their independence and their own rights for years.
The couple will visit Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
