The Real Madrid Foundation and the Ministry of Health sign a partnership against childhood obesity

President Florentino Pérez and Minister Carolina Darias signed the agreement to develop an educational and sports campaign.

Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez and Health Minister Carolina Darias have signed the partnership between the State Foundation for Health, Childhood and Social Welfare (CSAI) and the Real Madrid Foundation to fight once morest childhood obesity. Thanks to this agreement, the two foundations will implement an educational campaign to combat childhood obesity with training sessions, through the OTT Sports Values ​​Academy TV platform of the Real Madrid Foundation, as well as with activities practices in schools and socio-sports projects that our Foundation develops to help, every week, more than 8,000 minors in different lines of activity in Spain (socio-sports schools of football and basketball, adapted and inclusive schools , programs in reception and internment centers for minors and children’s basketball program in hospitals).

According to the WHO European Agency’s Aladdin study, 23.3% of Spanish school children are overweight and 17.3% show signs of obesity. This means that 40.6% of the child population is overweight. Spain is the second country with such high overweight figures and where the prevalence of obesity is the sixth highest. The practice of sport on a weekly basis and an adequate diet are the main tools to fight once morest this reality.

The event, held at Real Madrid City, was also attended by the director general of the Real Madrid Foundation, Manuel Redondo, the director of the CSAI Foundation, Óscar Díaz, and the director general of the Real Madrid Foundation, Julio González Ronco.​
