The ratings of the Big Brother final: how much did the gala that made Bautista the winner measure?

Bautista says goodbye to Big Brother and turns off the lights following being crowned champion

The 2023/2024 edition of Big Brother (Telefe), the television show that became the most popular show on the small screen, came to an end following more than two hundred days of confinement. Bautista Mascia was crowned the winner of the contest, in a gala that lasted more than three hours and was hosted by Santiago del Moro.

In terms of audience ratings, the pre-final broadcast began at 9:45 p.m. with a striking blue carpet and the entrance of former participants and panelists of the series, an event hosted by Roberto Funes Ugarte and La Tora Villar, which registered a start of just over eleven points, which gradually increased the ratings until reaching 17 points moments before the start of the main gala. Although the number was positive, it did not reach extraordinary figures.

The final of the program, the gala in which the last envelope would be opened and the new winner would be crowned, showed a slight rise in the rating, starting at 18.5 points. A highlight was when it was announced that Nicolás Grosman was in third place, which raised the rating to 20.9 points. The average for the gala, meanwhile, was 19.5. However, it should be noted that despite the good audience numbers, it did not manage to surpass the high points of the previous season or other values reached in the same edition, such as the 22.3 points recorded at the beginning of April in a confrontation between Furia and Catalina Gorostidi. But these figures were far from what was experienced in the final that crowned Marcos Ginocchio, who obtained a peak of 30.9 points.

After midnight, Santiago del Moro announced the end of voting. “Big Brother already has a winner,” the graph announced. Amid shouts, the host started a countdown and said: “Bautista.”

While his family and fans hugged and celebrated in the stands, the Uruguayan musician held his face, unable to take in the news. “Bautista, first prize; Emma, second, big round of applause for them. Very well done. Guys, you are two champions, I congratulate you. Together, there, Emma is everything, brother, you have everything ahead of you, pure charisma, pure adaptation and pure grit. And you, Bauti, are the great champion,” the host told them. The rating, at that moment, reached 20.3 points.

The final vote indicated 56.2% support for the Uruguayan singer and 43.8% for the stylist. Alone in the house, Bautista cried when he realized that he had become the champion of the reality show. In tears, he took his suitcase and listened to Big Brother’s words. “Bautista, my dear, winner of this house. Echoes that still remain and kisses, tears, laughter, screams, so many experiences, memories, all of you filled my house with light, but it is time to say goodbye. And you know something? You turn off those lights today,” the voice-over told him, while each of the rooms in the house went dark.

Bautista says goodbye to Big Brother and the lights go out

“I want to congratulate you once once more, not only for this great award but for having honored the game with impeccable conduct, where you have held high the values of friendship and loyalty. Let’s go to the door,” he added as the player walked through the garden. “Thank you for accompanying us and taking care of us, thank you very much. A great life awaits you outside. I will miss you,” he added to say goodbye.

“Me too,” replied the young man from Montevideo, who received 56 percent of the positive votes from the public. “Good morning, good evening and good followingnoon. Bye, Big,” he said, alluding to the film The Truman Show.

Since its debut in 2001, the popularity of the show fluctuated, depending on how empathetic the participants were, while making it clear that holding two editions so close together is not liked by the public and does not repeat its popularity. For example, the first final back in 2001, when the format was a shocking novelty in the country, reached 36.1 points. In the following editions, the rating decreased, with the second and third seasons achieving 29.7 and 29.2 points respectively, held in 2002 and 2003.

Marianela Mirra and Diego, in a memorable Big Brother finale that so far has the highest rating in its history

The year 2007 marked an increase, with an average of 39.1 points on the historic day that crowned Marianela Mirra. However, the edition of Gran Hermano Famosos (14.8 points) and the sixth season, the third one carried out that same year, (20.4 points) reflected a decrease in the audience. Meanwhile, the seventh season, which arrived on the screen in 2011, recovered ground with 31.4 points.

In 2012, the audience dropped once more to 12.5 points and the editions broadcast by América TV averaged 12 and 8.3 points respectively, in 2015 and 2016. The return to Telefe with the edition that crowned Marcos Ginocchio registered 28.6 points, according to data from Ibope.
