The rainy weather may cause the Norway Cup to have to postpone matches

The first matches in this year’s edition of the Norway Cup are to be played on Sunday, but the heavy rainfall both on Friday, night to Saturday and beyond Saturday can be a problem.

– We are watching closely and must assess whether the games have to be postponed. It is the weather that controls us at the moment, says acting general secretary Marthe Bøhler in the Norway Cup to NTB.

– We are watching closely hour by hour and will have to make a new assessment tomorrow morning, she continues.

Have options

The tournament, which includes 2,251 teams and around 30,000 soccer players as well as 80 teams and 1,000 handball players, has indoor options in the worst case scenario if the pitches on Sunday turn out to be unusable.

The parade and the opening show on Saturday afternoon will go ahead as planned, but all grass parking at Ekebergsletta is closed due to the rain.

– Cars sink down and get stuck. We therefore encourage everyone to travel by public transport, says Bøhler.

Most people use public transport anyway when going up to Ekebergsletta, so Bøhler does not think the parking ban will cause major problems.

Additional departures

Ruter has set up extra departures in connection with the Norway Cup.

– Routes are introducing extra departures on tram line 19 and bus lines 23 and 34. Bus line 74 will have its route changed throughout the week. A separate bus line is also being set up for the Norway Cup, NC2, between Tveita and Simensbråten, says communications manager Cathrine Myhren-Haugen at Ruter in a press release.

It is also possible to take the subway towards Bergkrystallen (both lines 1 and 4), as it is only about ten minutes to walk from Brattlikollen subway station to Ekebergsletta.
