If you feel like it’s in your area, it might be. Indeed, Belgium is not known for its beautiful weather and it is not these last few days that will contradict us.

Even in summer, you’re never sure you’ll be able to enjoy the sun when you live in Belgium: it rains on average 142 days a year (even if it sometimes seems like twice that). One region in particular is more affected than the others.

The rainiest region of Belgium

As the IRM explains, “The normal annual amounts of precipitation in Belgium vary by a factor of two on Belgian territory: from 700 mm/year for the northern part of Hesbaye to almost 1400 mm/year for the region of High Fens”. It is therefore the latter which is the region where it rains the most.

The IRM has analyzed a whole series of meteorological parameters over the past 30 years to reach these conclusions. Why the Hautes Fagnes? “The orientation of the slopes in relation to the directions of the winds bringing the majority of the rains (SW) also plays a role”, details the IRM.
