The Queen will wear at the ceremony at Westminster Abbey the dress that Elizabeth II had on at her own coronation in 1953.

Queen Camilla will wear a very symbolic outfit at the coronation of Charles III on May 6: a dress put on by Queen Elizabeth II during her own coronation in 1953.

In keeping with tradition, like her husband King Charles III, she will have two outfits for the ceremony: the “Robe of State”, worn on arrival at Westminter Abbey, and the “Robe of Estate”, for departure.

The crimson velvet “Robe of State” worn by Camilla was designed in 1953 especially for the coronation of Elizabeth II. Adjustments have of course been made so that the queen can wear it.

By London’s oldest tailors

The “Robe of Estate” is a creation, which was imagined by the Royal School of Needlework, a famous London embroidery school. The outfit was then designed by Ede & Ravenscroft, the oldest tailors in the British capital.

Pictures of these two outfitswhere Camille’s monogram has been embroidered, and symbols recalling her attachment to nature, and evoking love, have been published on the social networks of the royal family.

The coronation of King Charles III will take place on May 6th. Held at Westminster Abbey, this royal event will take place almost 70 years following the coronation of Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953.
