The Argentine rugby team, Los Pumas 7s, which last Sunday became champion of the Sevens in Hamilton in New Zealand, defeated Canada this morning by 24-19, in Group A of the Sevens in Sydney, Australia.
Argentina’s victory came to fruition with tries by Agustín Fraga, Rodrigo Isgro (2) and Marcos Monetta, with two conversions by Joaquín Pellandini.
For the Canadians, Phil Berna and Anton Ngongo added tries, while Brock Webster contributed a try and two conversions.
In the same group, Australia beat Great Britain by 12-7 and the activity of Los Pumas 7s in this fifth stage of the world circuit organized by World Rugby (WR) will continue today once morest Great Britain, at 9:34 p.m., and will culminate tomorrow with Australia at 3.17.
Argentina formed today with Santiago Alvarez, Luciano Gonzalez, Isgro, Gaston Revol, Santiago Vera Feld, Fraga and Tobias Wade. Then came German Schuls, Moneta, Matthew Graziano, Alejo Lavayén and Pellandini.
The other Sydney Seven groups are joined by New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya and Uruguay (B); United States, Ireland, Samoa and Spain ( C), and France, Fiji, Tonga and Japan (D).
Santiago Gómez Cora’s team won Gold last week by beating local New Zealand 14-12 in the final at the FMG Stadium in Hamilton.
After the Seven in Hamilton, Los Pumas 7s rose to third place in the general classification with 59 units, behind New Zealand (63) and the United States (61).
At the end of the campaign next May, the first four of the WR circuit, excluding the organizer France, will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Los Pumas 7s aspire to defend the podium reached for the first time in history in Tokyo.
