Nauseating smell, flow of water into the classrooms, the schoolyard flooded in places, in short, a rotting environment, this is the sad spectacle that the students of the public basic school of Kalaban Coura south extension have been experiencing for several years. in full view of all
Faced with cries from the heart of the local populations, in particular those responsible for the school administration and the pupils of the basic school, the editorial staff of Mali24.Info took an interest in the question to alert and challenge the authorities so that this framework of learning becomes holy once more for the great happiness of the learners.
It is enough only to go to the courtyard of the fundamental school of Kalaban-coura sud extension to see firsthand the consequences of these runoffs of water: Puddles of water everywhere, unsanitary courtyard, walls almost weakened with a risk of collapse. In addition, this school is exposed in the same way as neighboring families to diseases such as malaria and many other diseases linked to insalubrity.
Overwhelmed by the situation, Mr. Zoumana Doumbia, coordinating director of the Kalaban Sud 1st cycle school group, explains in these terms: “The school, which has regarding 600 students, is sitting in the water. It suffers from the side effects of runoff water. The students can’t even have fun in the yard because it feels like being in a lake. We had to group together a few classes, some of which are already inaccessible because of the humidity because the children fall ill every time. We must plan for the worst with regard to the state of the buildings”.
Ms. Traoré Mariam Bakayoko, the coordinating director of the said school, adds: “We are really afraid for our children. Even the first year class where I teach has been inaccessible this year. The water surrounds the school, we are really afraid that the buildings will collapse. The risk is great. »
This situation raises many questions: What is causing this runoff? Where do these waters come from? When will this nightmare end?
Indeed, many pointed the finger at SOMAGEP as responsible for this problem when we know that many of its faulty pipes are given as sources of nuisance in the capital as well as in the interior of the country.
It emerges from the investigations that the water runoff is due to the anarchic connections of the families to the collectors leaving the waste water lying around in the street.
At least that’s what we remember from the report of the technical services dispatched to the scene on the instructions of Mr. Adama Koné, 3rd Deputy Mayor of Commune IV, in charge of sanitation and town planning.
The clarifications of SOMAGEP contacted by our care, corroborate the report of the technical services.
According to Mr. Abdoul Karim Koné, SOMAGEP’s communication officer, most leaks are caused by the activities of local residents who break the network. “When the networks are broken, we very often intervene to repair them immediately. But we must recognize that we are facing difficulties. Among which the wrong address of neighborhoods and streets. Most of the people who call us to report leaks often do not manage to give us the addresses”.
In his explanations, he makes it clear that when a leak situation arises on social networks, it is updated each time people share the information. However, he specifies, some leaks are repaired following observation. According to him, the case of Kalaban-coura south extension is the perfect illustration. “It seems that this pipe was already repaired a year ago but so far people are saying the opposite. Above all, I advise the population to cooperate with us by calling our toll-free numbers accessible on all national networks,” he concluded.
Today, it is urgent that the municipal authorities take this matter head on so that appropriate measures are taken to definitively resolve the problem and save the school and the learners.
