In Rise of the Ronin there is enough to do besides the main story.

In Rise of the Ronin there is enough to do besides the main story.

Rise of the Ronin is the new action RPG from Nioh developer Team Ninja. But unlike this Souls series or Wo Long, the new PS5 exclusive relies on an open world. Depending on how extensively you explore it and how many side missions you want to complete, the playing time can of course vary greatly. We’ll tell you what you can prepare for.

That’s how long it takes you to play Rise of the Ronin

Strictly speaking, Rise of the Ronin doesn’t send you into a single connected world, but into three large, freely exploreable areas that you unlock as the story progresses. Each of the areas includes a city plus the surrounding area and is divided into several districts.

Playtime for a mix of the main story and some of the side quests: If you follow the story and complete some missions in the open world areas, free camps and dedicate yourself to tasks such as searching for missing cats, you can join in a good 40 hours calculate.

The individual duration for a round also depends heavily on which of three difficulty levels you choose. On the easiest one you can walk very quickly through enemy areas and simply take on enemies head-on.

You shouldn’t have any problems with bosses either. If, on the other hand, you play on the highest level of difficulty, you have to proceed more tactically and therefore more slowly. Bosses can sometimes require a few tries.

This way you can spend even more time in historic Japan

If you want to complete everything, you can still add a lot of playing time: If you want to complete each area completely, then it will of course take much longer. If you strengthen your bond with a district or person, new missions will be unlocked. A few of the tasks that generally await you in the world are:

  • Unlock checkpoints or fast travel points
  • Free camp
  • Defeat fugitives
  • classic side missions
  • Help quests for NPCs
  • Petting cats and then renting them out for jobs
  • Strengthen bonds with NPCs, factions and areas
  • to visit sights
  • Dojo fights
  • Photo missions in which you have to capture certain subjects
  • Collect books and use them to develop and improve technologies such as a flamethrower

You can find out how much we liked the game in general in our test video:

Additional post-story challenges: Once you have completed the story, a new level of difficulty is added, which is specifically designed to allow you to travel back to old areas at a high level. New challenges also arise here, such as camps with particularly high level recommendations and strong opponents.

You also unlock a fifth skill tree in which you can get additional attributes. So you can still spend time in historical Japan even following completing the story.

What makes you tick with open world titles like this? Do you try to complete everything as much as possible, do you only take part of the additional tasks along the way or do you strictly follow the main story?
