The run-up to the New Year was surprised by a storm with hail and wind gusts of up to 60 kilometers in Alta Gracia. Vice Mayor Jorge De Napoli, in charge of the Emergency Committee that was formed on the 31st at night, declared that there were roofs blown off in some homes, fallen trees and some sectors of the city still remain without power.
As a result of the damage, the government of Córdoba, through the Ministry of Social Development, reported that it will send aid to the families of Alta Gracia and Anisacate affected by the strong storm that hit a good part of the province.
By instruction of Governor Martín Llaryora, the Minister of Social Development and Employment Promotion, Laura Jure and the secretary of the area, Paulo Cassinerio, coordinate with the mayor of Alta Gracia, Marcos Torres, and his counterpart from Anisacate, Natalia Contini, the shipment of assistance.
For this purpose, a shipment of mattresses, blankets, food and plates will be transported immediately, while the activation of the Permanent Fund for Disaster Assistance is being evaluated.
Through the Fund, created in 2015, the Province can provide solidarity support to families affected by disasters and natural catastrophes.
The aid may materialize, depending on the case, with the coverage of the expenses of temporary lodging, clothing, food, as well as with the repair of damage to movable and immovable property caused by climatic events.
This situation will be relieved this followingnoon by Social Development officials and by teams of professionals who will tour, together with local families, the areas affected by the storm.
How was the storm in Alta Gracia
Around 10 p.m. on the 31st, a storm began that “spoiled” the celebration for more than one resident of Alta Gracia, Santa Ana and other towns along the Route 5 corridor. In Alta Gracia, the hail broke windows, the enormous amount of Water that fell in a few minutes (around 70 millimeters) caused sewers to become clogged and several cars were stranded with water near the vehicle windows.
The Civil Defense coordinator highlighted that since the previous night they worked together with municipal employees, ETAC, Volunteer Firefighters and Epec employees, since several power lines cables were also affected.
Some numbers provided by the committee indicate that 15 homes were affected so far with water entering, 20 fallen trees, 15 downed cables. Peralta highlighted that in the case of homes, people self-evacuated to relatives’ homes.

The vice mayor highlighted that they worked together and that work continues on cleaning the spaces and helping neighbors, among others. In addition, he indicated that there was great work by the people of EPEC to restore the service, among other activities..
It should be noted that 25 volunteers worked and among the most affected neighborhoods was the Parque San Juan de Alta Gracia neighborhood.
Meanwhile, the president of the Alta Gracia Sanitary Works Cooperative, Ennio Mazzini, stated that at that moment they are without power, since a tree fell, so a sector of the city is without water.
Regarding the flooding of the river, there is no report so far.
Power outages in Alta Gracia
“We have a lot of large trees falling on the lines. There are six distributors out of service, of which three are completely affected. The most important outages cover areas of Los Aromos, La Paisanita and the Autódromo sector,” said Alfredo Camponovo, Epec spokesperson.
