The prosecution requested the imprisonment of the main suspect

Christian Brickner, a German already imprisoned for other crimes, is on trial for sexual assaults and rapes committed between 2000 and 2017 in Portugal.

Prosecutor Ute Lindemann today described him as a “dangerous, sadistic psychopath” during her sentencing, expressing fears that he will repeat his crimes.

The court’s decision will be issued next week.

The defendant has been on trial in Braunschweig (northern Germany) since February for three counts of rape and two sexual assaults, cases unrelated to that of Madeleine, for which no formal charges have been brought against him.

The 40-year-old, reportedly a serial rapist, is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for the 2005 rape of a then 72-year-old American woman in Praia de Luz, a municipality in the Algarve province of southern Portugal. , where Madeleine McCann went missing.

In one of the cases he is on trial for, he is accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old German girl on a beach in April 2007, just months before Madeleine McCann disappeared.

In another case, he is accused of stripping in front of an 11-year-old Portuguese child in a playground.

He is also on trial for the rape of a 70-year-old woman, whom he had tied up and beaten in her summer accommodation, a child of about 14 in his house and a 20-year-old Irish woman whose house he managed to enter through the neighboring balcony.

In 2020, German justice announced that it considers Christian Brickner as the main suspect in the case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, little Mandy, a mysterious crime that has shocked the whole world.

In 2007, Maddy disappeared at the age of 3 from the apartment where she was vacationing with her parents while they were having dinner nearby.

The investigation languished for years until this German, with a heavy criminal record, who at the time of the events was living within a few kilometers of the accommodation that Mandy’s family had rented, caught the attention of the authorities.

His defense, however, disputes any involvement in the child’s disappearance, arguing that the prosecution has no evidence to charge him.
