A person died in Ile-de-France at the start of the week following contracting botulism while eating sardines in a Bordeaux restaurant. Faced with this tragedy, the Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office decided this Friday to open a preliminary investigation, as BFMTV learned from a source close to the investigation. The investigation is open on charges of unintentional injury, involuntary homicide, placing on the market foodstuffs harmful to health and sale of corrupted or toxic foodstuffs.

Autopsy of the victim this Friday

The investigation is jointly entrusted to the Gironde judicial police, the Central Office for the fight once morest attacks on the environment and public health (OCLAESP) and the Departmental Directorate for Population Protection (DDPP).

The victim’s autopsy will take place this Friday and the results will be known early next week.

Eleven other cases of botulism have been in France in recent days. All these people had eaten in the same restaurant.
