Sold to the enemy, betrayed by his own or by “neighbors”, marked with a substance that made him traceable. There are many rumors circulating about the end of Hassan Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader killed in a raid on Beirut by Israel. The list of “suspects” was drawn up by Corriere della Sera. Rumors that creep around under the radar and that are difficult to decipher, like the one that sees a “mole” close to Nasralah, already on the run abroad with his reward in data and information. Lebanese analysts, however, point the finger at Iran: “The ayatollahs would have sacrificed Hassan Nasrallah and the rest of the hierarchy in exchange for diplomatic concessions, an end to sanctions, relations with the West, economic openings”, writes Guido Olimpio who reports the background story from the newspaper Le Parisien according to which an Iranian tipped off Tel Aviv about where and when to strike.
In short, the ayatollahs may have abandoned Hezbollah, but there is also the hypothesis of a loose cannon within the Iranian services, which former president Ahmadinejad seems to allude to. But analysts also consider the internal track, Lebanese groups in conflict with the “party of God”, i.e. “Shiite rivals” or “Lebanese security circles”. In this context, a role for the Saudis cannot be ruled out. The TV interview with a Shiite imam of Lebanese origin but Saudi nationality, Mohammed Alì Al Husseini, went around the world, two days before the Israeli attack on Friday in which he warns Nasrallahe and advises him to make a will: “I wrote to him to be careful of those who have already sold it… You can’t say no to Tehran, but they dumped you.”
There is no shortage of reconstructions bordering on the 007 narrative, such as that of the Saudi site al Hadath. A person, who arrived from Iran, shook Nasrallah’s hand and left a substance on his skin which allowed the Israelis to locate him in the Dahieh underground. A hypothesis which is, however, considered to be at least unlikely.
