New tariffs and types of tickets have come into force in regional public transport. ATD says that passengers will be able to obtain accurate information regarding new ticket prices at ticket sales points or from carriers.
Tickets purchased electronically in mobile applications and on the Internet will become cheaper for passengers, since the goal of the new ticket system is to change the habits of passengers and encourage them not to buy tickets from the driver or at the ticket office, the directorate notes.
ATD recalls that in December last year the Public Transport Council approved a new regional system of tickets and tariffs for public transport, which will come into force gradually from yesterday until mid-2025.
The new tariff system will retain the principle of a minimum fee, but to bring this tariff into line with urban public transport systems, a minimum tariff will be established, including in Riga it will be 1.5 euros, in other cities – one euro. and outside cities – 0.7 euros. It was widely reported that the price increase would not be very large, but passengers have noticed that train tickets have become as much as 40% more expensive.
“I don’t even know what’s more annoying – the price increase or Vivi’s lie that it will be “relatively small”… In the middle of the day the ticket price was 1.20 euros, an increase of regarding 40%. If during the discounts you might go there and back to/from Riga for 2.40 euros, now it is 4 euros.
Okay, tell me, why are you counting pennies? In fact, I know what irritates me the most – the lack of justification for raising prices. If only there were now new trains that would be nice to board from new platforms – yes, I understand, the service has improved, you have to pay more for it. But now?! It’s a rare case when a new train arrives and you have to trudge along excavated platforms,” journalist Anita Daukšte is outraged on social networks.
