The Profile of Abdessalem Lassoued: Unveiling the Brussels Terrorist Attack

Everyone now knows and recognizes the face of Abdesalem Lassoued, the terrorist who killed two people in the capital on Monday evening. Shot dead by the police the next morning while he was on the run, the justice system will therefore not be able to question him.

The killer’s (adoptive) parents are still alive and their tongues are loose. On Tunisian television, on Hannibal TV, they returned to their son’s crime and to Sweden, a country that Lassoued had ended up “hating”.

“He was not very good at school. He stopped at the fifth grade and started working in the markets,” they explain, in Arabic in the text, but translated by our colleagues at Sudinfo. They also reveal his strong character. “He would get angry over nothing. He would sometimes hit people.”

But then the worst part of the interview comes. As if nothing had happened, the parents look back on this tragic night of October 16. “When he was very young, he asked me if I would be proud of him if he died a martyr,” adds the father. The mother adds that he had telephoned them: “He was very shocked by the affair of the Korans being burned in Sweden,” she explains.

For them, their son died as a martyr by killing “unbelievers”.
