The production of food alone could cause global warming by 2100 – nature

When you think of global warming, you usually think of smoking chimneys and exhaust pipes. In fact, the question of how to limit global warming and prevent a catastrophic development mostly revolves around the key issues of energy production and mobility. But food production also makes a major contribution to the warming of the planet. The agricultural sector is responsible for around half of methane emissions and three percent of CO2 emissions, and the trend is rising. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, between 2007 and 2016 agriculture accounted for 23 percent of man-made greenhouse gas emissions. The accuracy of the estimates is constantly improving, the influence of fertilizers on the climate was only recently assessed more precisely and even dwarfs that of shipping and aviation – together, mind you.
