The Pro-Hamas Demonstration at Carrefour Laval: Diaspora Crisis and Multiculturalism in Quebec

The pro-Hamas demonstration at Carrefour Lavalthe day following Christmas, will surprise many: why disturb this day, less festive than crazy, I agree, which represents the culmination of the spending intoxication of the holiday season?

If, strictly speaking, demonstrators in favor of “degrowth” had wanted to disrupt the event, we might have understood it, while being sorry, because it should not be forbidden to leave peace to ordinary mortals.

But what are the pro-Hamas doing?

Diasporas

We will only understand this event by placing it in the broader context of the importation of foreign conflicts to the Western world within its borders, an importation increasingly visible in recent years – also inseparable from the importation of a virulent Islamist anti-Semitism.

We see this in Europe as in North America, and ordinary mortals in these countries suddenly discover themselves as strangers in their country.

Isabelle Laporte, one of the most interesting figures on Twitter in Quebec, noticed something essential while watching the videos of the demonstration.

Laporte noted that one demonstrator, speaking on behalf of other demonstrators, shouted: “Your government makes you complicit…» Who are they demonstrating once morest, exactly? Who is “you»? Doesn’t that include it? Does he only live here? asks Laporte.

We understand that this demonstrator, even if he has Canadian citizenship, treats it like a simple piece of paper to which he does not associate any existential burden.

Deep down, his deep identity is Palestinian, and not Canadian, and even less Quebecois.

Moreover, he does not even have the basic decency to address Quebecers in their own language, but we are used to that.

This is part of the diaspora crisis that has hit Canada in recent months.

We have seen this in particular with the Chinese community: the Chinese government, clearly, expects Canadians of Chinese origin to be loyal first to China rather than to Canada. And clearly, there are many in the Chinese community who share this point of view.

Behind this, we always see the combined effects of massive immigration and multiculturalism.

Massive immigration transforms the demographic structure of the host country, promotes communitarianism and prevents any integration: multiculturalism creates a cardboard citizenship. The host country is emptied of its identity while immigrant communities are invited to preserve and enhance it.

French

I come back for a moment to the pro-Hamas demonstration. It is not anecdotal that it took place at Carrefour Laval, which today seems to be located in a globalized territory with an indeterminate identity, having little to do with that of the historic French-speaking majority. The French language is only residual there.

Frédéric Lacroix has already noted that Laval was now an extension of the West Island. In other words, this demonstration, far from being anecdotal, was indicative of the new Quebec that is being built for us in the name of the inclusion of diversity.
