Secretary IT says that Prime Minister Imran Khan stopped the implementation of social media rules after objections, social media companies will be obliged to open offices in Pakistan after the rules are notified.

The meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT was held, in which the IT Secretary told in the briefing that cybercrime in FIA is related to modern technology, ask the Ministry of Interior to empower FIA with technology.

Secretary IT said that the social media rules were notified by the government, there were many objections to the rules, after which the Prime Minister stopped the implementation of the social media rules.

In the briefing, it was said that the Advisory Committee on Rules was formed under the chairmanship of Chairman PTA, the committee has completed the consultation on Social Media Rules, Chairman PTA will send the report on Social Media Rules to the Cabinet Committee.

In the meeting, Chairman PTA Aamir Azim Bajwa while briefing the committee said that social media rules have not been notified by the cabinet, after notification, social media companies will be obliged to open offices in Pakistan, while social media companies will also have to nominate their representative in Pakistan.

Aamir Azim Bajwa said that many problems on social media will be solved by notifying the rules, handling social media has become a challenge for the whole world.

Chairman PTA said that it takes a lot of time to investigate cybercrime, fake account requires a report to the social media platform of the affected person, fake account can also be reported to PTA.

Naz Baloch said that if Twitter and Facebook offices are not opened in Pakistan, what will be closed, a person coming from abroad is given access to the entire database.
