The head of the Pharmacists Syndicate, Mustafa Al-Hiti, confirmed today, Monday, that the Prime Minister, Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani, promised to cover the Ministry of Health’s needs for 100% of cancer medicines during the current year, while he indicated that one patient costs the treatment protocol for him 120 thousand dollars.

Al-Hiti said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “All medicines, except for medicines for cancer diseases, are available in all pharmacies throughout the country,” noting that “the public sector suffers from a shortage of some medicines, including medicines for cancer diseases.”
He added, “Medicines for cancer diseases need a mechanism for administering and monitoring the patient through specialized centers,” noting that “these drugs need large sums of money, as the cost of the treatment protocol for one patient may reach $120,000.”
And he continued, “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani promised full coverage of cancer medicines during the current year,” explaining that “providing these medicines requires allocating 10% of the general budget to purchase them.”
He pointed out that “medicines for treating cancer patients and blood problems are among the main medicines that are not available in private pharmacies at the present time.”
