The Prime Minister of Armenia says that Moscow did not hand over weapons to Yerevan, although it paid for them

The remarks come as tensions between Moscow and Yerevan escalate after Russian peacekeepers deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh failed to prevent a blitzkrieg attack by Azerbaijan in September.

“There is a problem with the delivery of (Russian) weapons and equipment that we have already paid for,” the Armenian prime minister said on television.

“Discussions are currently underway regarding the mechanisms for solving this problem,” said N. Pashinianas.

“We know that the Russian Federation itself needs weapons,” he added, referring to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

N. Pashinian also noted that there are certain problems related to the bilateral agreement, which stipulates that the media of both countries should not try to interfere in internal affairs or destabilize the internal political situation.

According to him, Armenia invited Moscow to hold talks to resolve the media issue in a friendly and official environment.

Armenia is a member of the Moscow-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which obliges Russia to defend Armenia in the event of a foreign invasion.

In addition, N. Pashinyan accused the CSTO of failing to fulfill this obligation, including the seizure of small territories by Azerbaijan over the past three years.

On Thursday, Yerevan did not participate in the CSTO summit held in Belarus. This is the latest sign of Yerevan’s discontent.

In September, Baku took back control of Nagorno-Karabakh after a blitzkrieg forced Armenian separatists to lay down their arms.
