The head of government, Ms. Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, granted the prime minister two audiences yesterday. She first received a delegation from the African Union present in Togo as part of the forum on transitional justice. This delegation was led by Mr. Calixte Aristide Mbari, head of the democracy, elections, constitutionalism, rule of law, transitional justice division at the AU Commission, in the presence of Mrs. Awa Nana-Daboya, mediator of the Republic. Discussions focused on Togo’s good practices and achievements in the area of ​​transitional justice. Then Ms. Tomégah-Dogbé exchanged with a delegation from the Togolese Bar Association, led by the President of the Bar Me Sédjro Koffi Dogbeavou, and came to give him an update on the Bar Association’s activities, projects and efforts.

At the end of the interview, Mr. Calixte Aristide Mbari, confided that he paid Prime Minister Mrs. Tomégah-Dogbé a courtesy visit and took the opportunity to discuss the opportunities of the 6th forum on transitional justice which is being held, since yesterday, in Lomé. “The Prime Minister did us the honor of discussing with us on the 6th forum that we are organizing on transitional justice. This forum is an opportunity for all African actors to discuss important issues related to transitional justice. The head of government was kind enough to receive us in order to share with us all the good practices and achievements that Togo has had to make in this area. She reaffirmed Togo’s commitment and availability to support the African Union (AU) and all its partners in the process of transitional justice, to correct all injustices and heal wounds. It is a question of ensuring that all the causes which lead to the need to put in place a policy of transitional justice can find an achievement in order to consolidate peace and reconciliation of our States at the level of the continent”, he specified. Mr. Mbari said he took this opportunity to express his gratitude to the Togolese authorities for all the steps taken for the smooth running of this high-level forum. “We take this opportunity to thank the president of HCRRUN, who was the linchpin for the organization of this meeting, which enabled us to bring to Togo, the economic and regional communities, the organs of the AU , the institutions in charge of reconciliation, justice, but also the other actors of civil society, the institutions of Human Rights as well as an audience of mobilized actors, to bring their contributions to the reflection. In the current context where the theme of the year for the AU is the nutrition, we hope to establish the link between the issues of nutrition, land and water, fundamental to the survival of populations. It is a question of seeing to what extent justice can settle these priorities and allow each country to continue to meet the urgent needs of its people. “, suggested Mr. Mbari. He also said he was concerned regarding the terrorist threat in the sub-region, before reassuring his institution’s availability to work more for peace, security, justice and the development of African communities.
