The Primate of the UOC led the feast of the Supreme Apostles Peter and Paul in the Lavra — Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

The Orthodox Church solemnly honors on one day the memory of the holy, glorious and all-praiseworthy apostles, who, according to the words of Blessed Augustine, “…in spirit and in the nearness of their sufferings they are one. Peter preceded, and Paul soon followed him.”

In honor of the great feast of the supreme apostles Peter and Paul, the Liturgy in the Lavra church in the name of St. Agapit of the Caves was led by the Holy Archimandrite of the monastery, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kiev and All Ukraine, in the concelebration of a host of bishops and clergy of the UOC. Priestly and deacon ordinations were performed during the service.

The previous evening, an all-night vigil with a festive litiya was held. The service was conducted by the Administrator of the UOC, Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Metropolitan Ioasaf of Vasylkiv, co-served by the monastery brethren in holy orders, headed by the dean, Archimandrite Hilarion.

At the end of the solemn divine services, the many years of the now namesake Metropolitan Pavel were sung, following which His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy addressed the worshipers with an archpastoral word, in which he recalled the history of the service to the gospel of the holy apostles Peter and Paul, their divine calling to this field, the upbringing, origin and education of the apostles, their different destinies, but one service to God and His Gospel Truth. Then the Primate conveyed congratulations to the Abbot of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on the day of the heavenly patrons, wishing him, through the prayers of the holy apostles, inexhaustible help from God, an increase in apostolic wisdom and the same selfless service for the good of the Holy Orthodox Church.
