Livestock markets in various regions of the Kingdom of Morocco are experiencing a state of record high prices, in light of the approaching date of Eid Al-Adha, which is two months away.

According to professional sources, this rise in livestock prices is due to multiple factors, especially the repercussions of the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the effects of the Russian war on Ukraine.

In addition, the ongoing five-year drought and its effects on the national economy play a role in the continuation of this alarming rise in prices.

Moreover, professionals expect this upward trend to continue in the absence of effective government interventions.

In the same context, experts point out that importing livestock from abroad will not alleviate the situation, as local demand is witnessing an intense demand for local livestock during the Eid period.

This expected increase in prices shows the possibility that rams are not available at reasonable prices, as some expect that the cost of purchasing a moderate-sized ram in the weekly markets will not be less than 3,000 dirhams.

Reports also indicate the role of intermediaries and brokers in the escalation of this problem, which makes the situation more difficult and exacerbates the suffering of large segments of Moroccan society, who strive with all seriousness to celebrate Eid al-Adha by buying a ram, even by sacrificing a large portion of their income or even by resorting to debt. .
