Scenarios in front of the Banque du Liban
Banking sources said in press statements, “It is not known whether the Banque du Liban will resort to issuing a new circular that would curb the rise in the price of the green currency,” adding: “However, the matter of issuing a circular at any moment is highly likely, and it happened in earlier period.”
And in the event that the Banque du Liban decides to intervene at the present time, this will be through the “exchange” platform and the banks in order to pump the dollar into the market, and added: “Months ago, the bank was able to address the rise in the price of the dollar by making adjustments to the decisions related to the exchange rate, but this It now depends on the bank’s ability to increase trading on that platform.”
“The price of the dollar on the black market is an artificial price,” said economic analyst Antoine Farah, in an interview with Voice of Lebanon 100.5 radio station.
Farah indicated that “its rise is linked to the size of the intervention of the Banque du Liban, which seems to have taken the decision to limit the intervention to keep pace with the process of raising the customs dollar and linking it to raising public sector salaries.”
The Lebanese economic analyst continued, “The Bank of Lebanon allows the dollar exchange rate to rise in order to avoid printing the currency,” revealing that “the dollar price will continue to rise in the coming days.” He added, “It is certain that the citizen will pay the price, and therefore an economic rescue plan must be drawn up.”
