The price of the dollar fell today in Lebanon during Thursday’s trading in the unofficial (black) parallel market, to an average price ranging between 28300-28400 Lebanese pounds per dollar, compared to 31200-31300 Lebanese pounds per dollar, according to the “lirarate” platform for monitoring the price of the dollar in the market Lebanese Parallel.
Central Bank of Lebanon statement
The Central Bank of Lebanon issued a statement saying: “The Banque du Liban states that it stands by charities and their just demands.” It had previously agreed to grant 40% of the charities’ dues, which were transferred from the year 2021 in cash.
On Monday, the Ministry of Social Affairs was informed of this. Therefore, any association whose name is included in the table provided to us by the Ministry of Social Affairs can obtain part of its dues in cash from its bank accounts. Clarification required.
Fitch forecasts for Lebanon’s economy
On May 27, Fitch Ratings said that Lebanon’s exit from default is still difficult following the inconclusive elections.
She added that the results of the inconclusive May 15 elections in Lebanon make it more difficult for any camp to form a stable ruling majority in Parliament, noting that the political affiliations of Lebanese MPs are not always clear.
And the Lebanese Minister of Communications, Johnny Al-Qarm, said last Friday, May 20, following a cabinet meeting, that the telecommunications sector in Lebanon will start using the exchange rate set on the Central Bank’s exchange platform for phone services, including calls and mobile Internet connection.
Previously, the telecommunications sector used an old exchange rate that determined the value of the dollar at 1,500 Lebanese pounds.
The trading volume on the “Sayrafa” platform, yesterday evening, Wednesday, amounted to regarding 124.5 million dollars, at a rate of 24,500 Lebanese pounds per dollar, according to the exchange rates of operations carried out by banks and exchange institutions on the platform.
The Central Bank of Lebanon called on all banks and exchange institutions to continue recording all purchase and sale transactions on the “Sayrafa” platform, in accordance with the circulars issued in this regard.
